Since Ireland is so bloody expensive for Alcohol, has anyone here successfully ordered from abroad with a good discount?

Also looking for irish rarities like Bacardi 151, seems impossible to get a hand of it in this country.

Any experiences greatly wanted, especially regarding any e-tailers and for finding 151 ;)

If you buy from the US, technically you're supposed to pay duty when it enters this country. When you buy from the EU, legally, the duty is supposed to be paid in the country you're importing it into. This is rarely followed, though. You can be lucky or unlucky when getting stuff from the US.

Most vodkas & rums are distilled to over 90% and then diluted back down afterwards. This is for safety reasons both flame and health safety. It is only "rocket fuel" if you drink too much! just adjust your portions accordingly. The good thing about high strength spirits is you can use more mixers. I like rum & coke, but I take it half & half to be around 20%, now since over half the rum is already water it ends up quite watery. Mixing 95% vodka or rum with coke keeps it nice and fizzy.

I've just ordered a difficult to find rum off TheDrinkShop.com, based in the UK. They seem pretty decent - I'll let you know how things go with the delivery. Ireland is in their drop down menu of countries, and not that expensive for shipping.

They stock your Bacardi... but it seems incredibly expensive compared to the states. Could be something to do with the proof.

http://www.thewhiskyexchange.com/P-4429.aspx have it too, but still very pricey.

Well at double the strength twice the ingredients went in, and twice the duty is on it. It should just be twice the price in theory, actually a little less, as the shipping, packaging, storage etc is lower. I think duty might be higher in the UK on stuff 40% and above. I know gordons gin reduced to 37.5% once from 40% and lost business, I think it was for duty reasons but think they changed back to 40%. The duty would not be enough to warranty that high a price though.

Could possibly be some shipping costs, I think the limit is 70% to bring on planes. Could be just economies of scale too, it might be bottles abroad etc,

It is not worth it at that price IMO, is there any particular reason you really want it. I would sooner get the readily available 3 year old (3 anos) havanna club which is quite cheap in O'briens last time I checked.
