so many people don't have the MMR so it is spreading like wildfire still. I have seen quite a few cases.

When I was in 3rd year a good few got mumps.

Luckily my parent had the sense to allow me to get the MMR thus no worries.

can someone actually explain to me properly about this. i have had my mmr as a baby and the booster at the age of 12 but now at 21 am worried that i might still get it. i thought these vaccines would stop you getting it but if that is the case why do so many people my age have them? surely if i had the 2 shots then wouldnt it be the norm that most people my age would have had them too??

think about it , many kids could've been on holidays (like me:rolleyes:) or plain sick ,there are a number of reasons why they didn't get it ,and believe it or not some parents don't believe in injections

Ive had the vaccine, but reading up on it i only found yesterday that the vaccine is only 80% effective.

If my interpretation of the wiki page on it is correct..

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mumps

"The efficacy of the vaccine depends on the strain of the vaccine, but is usually around 80%.[18],[19] The Jeryl Lynn strain is most commonly used in developed countries, but has been shown to have reduced efficacy in epidemic situations."

As ever, its Wikipedia so take it with a grain of salt:)

Alot of people didnt get it because of the paper linking it to Autism, so parents who believed the paper didnt get their kids vaccinated, so now its spreading through secondary schools and colleges.
