A lot of people are giving out about rag week but I think the firewalk was fantastic and looked dangerous too .I'm surprized nobody was seriously hurt . I mean they were walking on hot coals.

I can't belive they might cancel events like this next year:mad:

The Firewalk alone raised over €10k.

Rag week in general is pretty much a week where students dont go to lectures and instead go the pub, how excatly can the college cancel that??

the only real way they could cause an impact would be if the lecturers give assignment for that week,

actually it shudnt matter how crazy the students go, the cops should just patrol better, introduce instant 100 euro fines,

    Interesting,

Relieve all personal responsibility from the student to act in a half decent manner and put the burden back on the Guards who have better things to be doing other than trying to control and bring order to a bunch of half-wits.

That sounds like a fantastic solution.

Is this guy for real?? Students should basically be allowed to what they want and put the responsibiliy on the Guards. Pathetic.

Wow great to see that both of you live in the real world,
So how has your approach worked for every single rag week? or every single Saturday night, or st patricks day??

some People are idiots, and these people are bigger idiots when they get drunk. i know that in the perfect world they wouldnt, and would act in a well behaved world, but we dont live in make believe land, well i dont.

if people can get away with things then they will do them. it should be responsibility of the law to punish these people, i have had to call the cops on a few occasions over the last few months, to deal with drunks, usually they will turn up at least 1-2 hours later, however if you call 999 and get through to them that way they respond within few minutes as the call is registered, basically they cudnt give a ****.

During rag week i watched two gards walking down rag week, a group of lads were pissing against mcdonalds window, they didnt say anything , and when the lads saw them they turned into the streets and started dancing while continuing to piss.

and yes it is the responsibilty of the gards to enforce the law, its their job

"who have better things to be doing other than trying to control and bring order to a bunch of half-wits".

What is this better thing?? if i was walking down any street in any city in the world, roaring and screaming, drunk out of my face, stumbling in front of traffic, what do you think would happen??

i suspose the cops would just say "oh he should have more sense" and let me be

"Is this guy for real?? Students should basically be allowed to what they want and put the responsibiliy on the Guards. Pathetic"

Your not even making a point, i suspose complaining probaly gets you attention,

it doesnt matter if your a student or not, there is a system of law in place, and it needs to be enforced.

Should the gards not enforce the law because they think the person in question should have more sense??

I am a student and i went out during rag week, i also had to work during rag week. everytime i was in eyre square there were people drinking and screaming in public, there were people playing football across the streets, there were people getting in fights, and throwing their empties around, yet there was never a poilice presence.

A few more gards on patrol, simply walking around eyre square would have been a big help, as people would realise that there are cops around.

And as i originally said it shouldnt matter how crazy someone goes the law is the law and it should be enforced, though im sure if the two other posters close their eyes hard enough and click their heels together 3 times then everyone will suddenly mature and turn into a decent human being, :D

Oh ur such a sad person. Of course the law has to be enforced but if you re read your first comment when u said that it should not matter how crazy students get........ Basically you are saying that the students have no responsibility and that they can get as drunk as they like because the guards should be around to Babysit them. I for one dont want my tax money being spent on drafting in additional guards and paying their overtime because students act like this. You give the example of two students taking a piss outside McDonalds, and u criticise the guards for not stopping them - For Gods sake they are probably in their twentys and its a sad country we live in when you see the problem as being that the guards did not stop them instead of the problem being that they were taking piss in the first place. Yes the law has to be enforced but the guards should not have to babysit drunkin students, they should be fighting real crime. But hey, you suggestion is that we get more gurads away from real crime and have them spend their time baby sitting students and paying them overtime. We are in a recession but feck it, lets spend thousands of euro nany sitting the Galway students.

One other point, there were over 40 arrests on Monday afternoon alone and a guard saved a drunkin student from drowning after he went swimming in the river - they were doing their jobs but they cannot be everywhere. Students have to take responsibility aswel.

first of all its nice that you keep insulting me, calling me sad and Pathetic, nice guy,
second its also nice that you have the ability to read my mind and decide what i mean

"Basically you are saying that the students have no responsibility and that they can get as drunk as they like because the guards should be around to Babysit them"

i was making a point in my original post, was just a casual reply, didnt address anyone or insult anyone, but thats ok, some day you will mature and stop tring to annoy people on the internet.

and like i said before, how has your aproach helped in the past, for every single rag week, or any other drinking occasion? how has the whole lets hope that people will gain instant common sense worked for you?

Now i know that might be hard for you to accept, but you have to grow up, internet bullies who call names and try and raise a response are usually not welcome on forums. so you should address the topic or prehaps not respond at all if the nature of your response is to insult someone.

    Yawnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn:pac:
