Under 4 should be free as far as I know (4 kids myself).

    * (I could be wrong but I've yet to be charged for under 4's)

From the irish Rail website: http://www.irishrail.ie/home/faq.asp?faq_id=53#53

    iIt says:

Children aged five or more and under the age of sixteen years of age are entitled to purchase a child ticket or fare.

Children under the age of five years are entitled to travel for free on intercity services when accompanied by a fare paying adult provided children do not occupy seats required for fare others passengers.

Those who wish to book a seat on reservable trains for a child under five years of age, may do so only by selecting a "Reserve Seat" ticket online at a cost of three euro per journey i.e. a return trip would cost €6 per child.
