Anyone here any experience of this unit?.

My son is thinking of joining, so I'd appricate any info no matter how big or small.

    Thanks.

Sp Coy are based in Rathmines, along with B and D Coys, or were last time I checked. The battalion's website is http://www.62infantry.com/ , you could have a look. The various Coys' contact details are here.

In McKee, there's 62 Arty and 65 Inf, whose Sp. Coy. is based in there.

Ok, I might have got the unit wrong.

It was formerly the 7th Inf Bn in McKee Bks.

    Is that the 65th?.

Anyway, its the Infantry RDF unit based in McKee Bks.

(I'm an ex-member of B'Coy, 7th Inf Bn back in the early 80's!).

Aye, that's the 7th alright. I can't say much about them other than whenever we've worked with them, they were alright.

65th are in McKee. I know plenty of lads from that unit and their decent skins. Has its muppets like any other unit (PDR or RDF). 65th tends to be the bigger of the Res Inf Bn's in the East so they tend to be quite active.

Professional enough. Good relations with the mothership PDF Bn [ well at least it used to, but I'm 62nd ]

I was in the 65th before joining the PDF, although I was HQ rather than SP Coy. It's a pretty good Bn in the grand scheme of things, has a good relationship with the 5th Bn and has some very good Cadre staff. There's a good bunch of lads down there as well.

If ya wanna know any particulars gimme a shout through a PM mate.

Thanks for all the replies and PM's guys, one more thing.

He's 17 and doing his leaving cert this year before moving into third level edu, will his commitement to the RDF interfer much in his education?.

Oh, I'll be taking him in during the week to chat with the guys and have a look around - already the little fecker has his eye's on my Haix boots & new DPM backpack etc!..

Not really. it's just the one night a week to begin with then maybe the night before or even before you go to polish boots etc. Granted I was in 5th last year. Then there wasn't too many field days etc. Now i'm in a year and a half(in 6th year) and they're coming at me nearly left right and centre(not that i'm complaining I love it!:D). It won't really put in with it at all. If he can't go he should just send a text to his section commanders explaining and it'll be fine! I'd advise to get a good realationship with the teachers and explain that he has that commitment and you never know he might get a bit of leeway, an extra day or something for your homework. but only use that in extreme circumstances!

He's not the only one with their eye's on that stuff!:D anyway after we're getting your old stuff he'll get cefo and packpack when he needs it. but i prefer to have my own.

As a Recruit it won't interfere with his education at all, the field days for recruits are usually few and far in between. I imagine as you are in 25 years, mairt, he knows some basic stuff, so he will be good on camp. Tell him not to take any unissue'd kit, (ie, your stuff) on camp, because there are plenty of magpies.

I know you have done none since your last overseas, but show him a bit of footdrill, so he is on par with the herd who were in early!!! (you must remember a little!!!!:D:D!!!)

Tell him to just enjoy it, don't take what everyone says too seriously, and that he will never fire the Bren, the most fun gun ever!!!!!:D:D:D(I got to!!!!)

I was still in the RDF while I was doing my Leaving and it didn't really cause any snags so he should be alright.
