Employers do not have to pay you anything during maternity leave.

    What does your contract say?

you should go in and speak to him if you are unsure. Its the only way you will find out

I don't know much but I suspect he'd be on dodgy ground if he reduced your pay while on mat leave. Maybe talk to http://www.citizensinformation.ie/

Your employer doesn't have to pay you anything during maternity leave. It's completely at their discretion as to whether or not they pay you and if they do pay you they don't have to pay you your full salary.

I would assume that he is well within his rights to reduce your maternity leave pay. I would go into him though, if he's an approachable manager and just have a chat to him about what's happening and is it likely that he'll be reducing it again etc etc
