Been reading up on the pro's and cons of each DAW, was wondering how people here felt...

Which do you use and why?

Logic 8 or ProTools? 15 votes

I use Logic. I got it as I had an IMAC.
I have never used Pro Tools so I can't compare them.

Logic does all I need so I am very happy with it.

    Sigh.

    Pick whichever one YOU prefer.

I use both, but use pro tools more often, just better for recording bands and whatnot, logic is great for creating music, its midi editor and instruments are much better.

both are very powerful DAWs with their own strong points.

as a protools user i'd prefer it but then i havent got a lot of experience with logic.

both will provide you with pro quality so its impossible to say which is better.

have a look at both and see if you can get someone to give you a run thru them (big bear sounds will happily let you flick thru pro-tools at their shop).

Thanks for the info, I'm prolly gonna start with Logic 8 I think, it works with all my current equipment and the midi aspect is great. Move on to protools at a later stage.

    I'm a PT user.

In all honestly you'll get great results form both but the DAW has nothing to do with the your end result. Your Pre/Mics/Leads/Room are all far more important. So I'd not get bogged down into picking. Just go with what you like, afterall your convertor selection would have more to do with what platform you go for.

I depends what you are used to, I have used a version of logic for years and am much more productive with it. I recently got pro tools and while its fine I still prefer Logic, I cant find all the bits I need for editing midi in protools.

im a protools user and im very fond of it but to be honest i think i'd have gotten logic instead if i had a mac.

The its not the DAW you use at the end of the day it's the musicians, the outboard as previously mentioned and the tech.

    both have their pros

logic for midi, instruments, built in plugins, and general all around goodness

protools for compatibility with nearly every pro studio in the world

Voted Logic as have been a user since version 3 :( how old am i then !!!! :)

Protools have never even with PT8 managed to harness the midi and audio side of things like logic has :)

In what I do I need to always use midi and audio combined and PT's doesnt have what I need :( pity as Im always up for change

Been using logic quite a bit now and I love it! Very easy to use, quality is fantastic and the midi capabilities are amazing, I don't think I'll be switching any time soon!

Have you or anyone online here tried Pro tools 8?

What do you think of it Jimbo808?

PT 8 has added a lot of great new (read logic) features. Im in a college that have both, and the split is fairly even. everyone knows the midi beast that logic is, and most people starting out recording bands prefers protools, but if neither of those scenario's are your thing then its down to which screen you think is better looking. just my two cents :)
