US funnyman Jerry Seinfeld is returning to TV after 11 years - as a marriage counsellor.

The comic, who wrote and starred in long-running sitcom 'Seinfeld', is planning a new show for America's NBC network entitled 'The Marriage Ref'.

The series, co-created with Oprah Winfrey's executive producer Ellen Rakieten, will feature celebrities talking about the highs and lows of married life, according to Variety.

But Seinfeld is adamant the show will focus on the amusing aspects of being husband and wife.

He tells the publication: "This is not a therapy show, it's a comedy show. After nine years of marriage, I have discovered that the comedic potential of this subject is quite rich."

I think I'll reserve judgement until I hear some more details. Good to see him back all the same.

True, the best bits of 9 seasons of Seinfeld were the occasional shots of the back of LD's head, or wig .

In line with the whole 'No lessons, no hugging' rule, I assume that was only ever speculation. And Michael Richards career is probably toxic at this stage.

Love 'Seinfeld', but the premise of this new show sounds horrible.

My point being that Larry David was the head writer for the programme.

and my point being crediting Larry David as the 'true star' is doing all of the rest of them, actors and writers and Larry Charles, a disservice.

If it were all down to him, then it would be called something different, like 'Curb your enthusiasm'.

    Much better news..

As a big 'Seinfeld' fan, I only really started watching 'Curb' last week - currently working through the second season. Fantastic show.. I wish I watched sooner.

I think a lot of people claim Larry David to be the real brains behind Seinfeld, but I don't think it's an easy statement as that to make.

    - the cast of actors were superb and really helped the characters become who they were

    - there were lots of other young talented writers on the show who came up with a lot of the classic storylines, Larry and Jerry acted more as a filter for these ideas

    - Seinfeld and David had a great writing synergy, greater than the sum of their parts.

if you watch the show a lot you can pick out, lines and dialogue that are obviously plucked directly from conversations between the two.

I don't think Larry David has a talent for writing cracking dialogue on his own, have you seen Laryy David's movie "sour Grapes" he wrote and directed after leaving Seinfeld?

pretty weak stuff, not a bad story but very weak dialogue, so so acting and really basic directing.

Also I think this is why in Curb everything is improvised, he perfers the natural "riffing" nature of dialogue than trying to put words in peoples mouths.

anyway, it's good to see either of them on screen

I don't think that a new show is a good idea, it will take away seinfelds (the series) iconic status.
