MHEG-5??

I have just bought a new TV – 22LG3000 – which I am very happy with.

It has located, via the autotuning, Irish digital TV channels. However when I try to connect to them I get this message “MHEG-5 Loading … please wait” – and then nothing happens!

Do I have a problem or is this symptomatic of something else?

    Help would be appreciated.

MHEG-5 is just the name for the standard that is used for digital teletext afaik.

Does the tv work or is it stuck with that message displaying?

Does that TV definitely have an MPEG4 decoder? I was looking at 26" LGs recently but they seemed to be MPEG2 only.

it's not just digital teletext, it is for all interactive services. If your TV doesn't support it then you won't get any of the services that may or may not come with irish DTT.

Some UK spec TVs won't properly support it as they are on a different version. However you would likely still get pictures and sound if that was the case. OP it seems likely your TV doesn't have an MPEG4 tuner?

Thanks for all the replies - and excuse my ignorance, I'm not very technically minded.
Yes - the message comes up but then sticks with no further action.
Don't think LG has MPEG4 - is that the connection?
Just wondered why the message comes up if the TV can't handle it?

The TV probably supports MHEG5, just not the profile used here, so it attempts to decode it and gets stuck. Either way if your TV doesn't do mpeg4 then you wouldn't be able to view anything anyway even if it got past this stage.

Are the UK and Irish versions of DTT both using MHEG5 (v1.06)?

Uk didn't start out with that profile, so possibly the TV only supports earlier version pre 03, unlikely as it seems. It should support latest profile of course but maybe it doesn't. Or it does and is missing a recent addition which is confusing

Or it could be the TV is decoding the MHEG5 fine, but then tries to decode MPEG4 to show the picture and gets stuck, and just happens to leave the MHEG5 window up.

Hard to know really, its all guesswork! Main thing is that if the TV doesn't do MPEG4 then there isn't much point worrying about it...

    Yes
To conform to the minimum receiver specification the IRD shall be compliant with the following standards:
    1) NorDig 2.0 Basic Profile @ High Definition Level
    2) MHEG-5 UK Profile, version 1.06
    3) Additions and clarifications as set out in this document

As per the various mentions of MPEG4 - any google hits on this model make no mention of MPEG4 capability - this is how the video signal is compressed to fit in the digital stream of data - it's nothing to do with the connection (I assume you mean the physical connection). The UK system (and the original Irish trial) started out with MPEG2 compression. The Irish system now under test is using MPEG4.
This would appear to be a standard UK freeview model. Not suitable for the Irish DTT system :( As a prior poster said - the TV is probably "stuck" on the MHEG-5 message as it is not capable of decoding the MPEG4 video stream.
