UK Registered Alfa Problem....

Ok, bit of a tough situation here-so hoping some boardsies can help us out.
Long story short, we now have a Uk reg'd BMW on our hands. The problem is, it's registered in our father's partner's name (despite him paying for it). She is more than willing to sign it over to us, but ideally we'd like to try and avoid paying VRT on it (as its roughly 7500e).
Even though she's living in the UK can we get her to register the car in her name over her easily enough? Having read through the definitive guide, can't find much info on it.
Now another another option would be to sign the car over to our names and then swap the car over here in Ireland on Uk plates - for something with a smaller engine. Would Irish dealers even do this?
Third and final option really,is to bring the car back over to the UK and swap it for a classic car over 30 years to avoid paying the VRT.
The BMW is not essential for our travelling needs, we have two cars already but this is a nice coupe that we probably won't ever get our hands on again!!
Really need some advice or suggestions on what to do-its a tricky situation, but can't justify shelling out 7.5k on it!!

EDIT-Due to the rare nature of the car, especially the large engine size! It is worth between 15-20k over here but only 11-13k sterling. But would be next to impossible to sell over here over the coming years-nobody wants a huge engine and mpg in the teens!

That's where your wrong, most people certainly don't want a large engine (3.0+) but certainly not everyone.

What's the car and what size is the engine?

Also what's all this about an Alfa??

Why isn't there a head scratch smiley?

What model is it. Is it actually in the country? Did you get it for free ?
If so whats another 7.5k eh?
For such a long post it's missing a lot of details!

She can only bring it in here without paying the VRT is she's going to hold on to it for a min of 6 months and if she's moving back here permanently.
