nokia 6300 wont turn on

wife's phone battery died,put the phone on charge and now it wont switch on,any ideas.the screen lights up but then goes dark after a second or two.its only a few months old but its been dropped a few times(slippery bugger)

Are you sure the battery died when it stopped working or might it have been out in the rain or something?

When you plug in the charger do you see the charging indicator on the phone screen?

Have you tried removing the battery and putting it back in again?
