Can Laser Transaction Decline ?

What happens if I left my laser card number and expiry date as a guarantee but there is not enough money in the account to cover the payment. I do not have an overdraft. Would it be authorised and then take me into the red at the bank or would the transaction just decline?

It should not, but it can sometimes, depends on your bank.

It should not take you into the red, but sometimes it does.

So, therefore, If there is not enough money in the bank to cover the payment...will it decline?

Ok, read what myself and the other user have said. In theory it should decline, but, on occasion, it may authorise, therefore taking you into the red.

I'm fairly certain it's at the discretion of your bank to authorise or decline the payment in this instance but as it's all done electronicaly now it will more than likely fail.

I've been using a Laser card for about 8 years now and up to a couple of years ago, I could purchase items to the value of my balance and still withdraw that balance the same day which would put me into the red. I think now, even though online banking won't show a laser transaction for a couple of days, the sum of the transaction is held and you cannot withdraw or make anymore transactions over your balance minus the outstanding transaction but if a teller tries to make a transaction over your available balance it will more than likely fail.
