Third Prov + Theory Test Query

I understand if somebody has had two Provisional Licenses and let them expire they need to (in my wifes case); Show proof that they have applied to do the Test in order to get a Third.

My question is: Do they have to do the Theory Test (They didn't have to do it when they got their original Prov Lic)?

Another Q for me this time: I have a Full B License for 10+ years. Do I need to do a Theory Test to get a C1/D1 Povisional License?

I think that she won't have to do the test if her most recent provisional expired within the last 5 years. If it was more than 5 years ago, then I think that she'll have to take the test.

As for you, it's my understanding that you'll have to take a theory test for the C category.
