    Hi,

Really need some ideas am hoping to get married later this year but have no idea how to go about it all. we are not really into the traditional type wedding would much rather a casual day with friends and family. Definitely civil ceremony and maybe a BBQ, Band etc. Ideally would like to have this at home but to be honest house is not big enough for 100-120 people and don't want hassle with the neighbours - Any suggestions welcome have totally run out of ideas!!!!

Have looked at Darver castle near dundalk, its more of a manor house/stately home which you hire exclusively. Has 9 bedrooms in the main house, function room and bar attached to it and looks very good for a more intimate, informal family oriented wedding. You hire the place exclusively. We didn't go with it because we were looking for a castle wedding and Darver was a bit too homely for us, but if your looking for that kind of wedding it would be ideal. There are a few stately homes/manor house type things around that do that kind of thing. In galway, cloghan castle also does this in galway, you hire out the castle exclusively and stay in it. Again didn't go with it ourselves because it could only cater for a max of 120 and we have around 150 coming to ours. You hire the place and arrange your own caterers and bar and they have facility for a bbq on the battlements.

just a few to think about.

just to let you know, if you are having a ceremony outside a church (civil or religious) the registrat will not grant permission if it is outdoors. Also it has to be a public venue, with full public access (so no private homes etc). The no to outdoors is prob due to weather - otherwise the registrar would need to approve two venues in case the weather turned bad or something. Also if it is a civil ceremony you cannot have anything of a reilgious nature at the venue - no crucifixes etc. Finally it has to be wheelchair accessible.

Hotels are usually fairly straight forward. We are having ours in a local stately home and then off to a hotel.
