I'm black and have sac'ed 2 pawns to get this passed pawn, do I have a realistic chance of winning or does he have too much material?

Edit: Don't know how to show the board, just click the link.

I think black should easily be able to force white to swap the rook for a pawn

Yeah I think so too, but do you think I would then lose my rook trying to prevent his pawns promoting, leaving me with just a king vs king and pawn.

I think you can win the rook for your a-pawn but White will always be able to get his pawns moving fast enough to draw an eventual endgame of R vs P or R vs PP. It needs a closer look though and you definitely have winning chances if White plays badly.

Yeah well your man is rated 1600 so he's probably going to play it well, he's got 4 pawns vs my king and rook. I'm trying to get my king over to assist but it's not going to be straightforward. Might offer him a draw and see if he accepts.

I think I've played pretty well so far and held my own. It's about as good as I can play, RoundTower if you wouldn't mind analysing it and find some better moves for me :) Also what is your name? Would I know you from the icu site?

Ah, from Gonzaga? You know Sam Collins? I don't know him but I read all about his performance at the Olympiad years ago.. Alex Lopez is a personal friend of mine, only got into chess myself a year ago, starting to improve now, finally :)

yeah I know them both well though I haven't seen Sam in a long time.

I don't think it would be very fair for me to advise you on your ongoing game, I did take a look at the finish of the original game you posted and I'm pretty sure you should have at least drawn it. 4 pawns against the rook = hard to win, 3 pawns against the rook = hard to lose when they start off so far back, you shouldn't have given up your extra kingside pawn without a fight.

Yeah Alex seems to have disappeared aswell, I've pretty much won these two games against this opponent. I have a queen and 3 pawns to just his queen. I don't see how I can lose it, the other game I have 3 pawns and a knight whereas he has a knight and one pawn, one square from promotion but my knight is protecting the square. This would be two good wins for me, especially seeing as it's a tournament game on RHP :) I was hoping you'd analyse the game thus far, not tell me how to win it!
