Does anyone know what the best site (or shop) for buying scopes in Ireland is? I assume it will have to be a UK website but I haven't found any that ship for a reasonable price and not €100+. Astronomy Irelands prices are ridicoulous and the selection on Ebay is fairly poor, Im looking for a Celestron Nexstar 102 SLT Refractor but I cant find one for the going rate anywhere, is there any telescope shop that ships to Ireland for a reasonable rate?

Id say a private buy here in Ireland or something online from the UK is your best bet Thargor , but wish you luck ,

By the way , whats the bottom line on your scope in case i know someone looking ?

Have you tried Andy McCrea in North Down Telescopes?

I don't know if he delivers here so you might have to travel up north to collect.

Ill post it anywhere in Ireland for €95 or collect it in Galway for €85, Im not going below that, its practically brand new with all its original packaging and it is a great telescope, please ask around Stargate if you wouldn't mind, thanks man.

@ murphyme: Im guessing you mean this site:

But there doesnt seem to be anything in their telescope section, just a photo of some random dobsonian. I dont mind travelling up North I suppose, anyone know of any good shops up there?

Okay prices but they wont let you select Ireland as a destination, Ive emailed them to ask and will post the results.

Someone on another forum recommended www.teleskop-express.de and their prices are very competitive with postage of about €18-€40 depending on the weight of the scope, and only about a fiver or so for eyepieces and accessories, I think Ill be using them if I dont find anything better over the weekend...

He does deliver to the Republic and he's an official Meade agent. I bought my scope from him. Lovely guy to deal with too. He doesn't do Celestron scopes but Meade are as good.

http://myweb.tiscali.co.uk/northdown/ - his phone number is on that site and he's no problem taking calls. He's not just a seller of scopes - he's an enthusiast himself and has no problem giving advise.

I can second the above. Andy is a very nice guy, very helpful - we exchanged many e-mails before I placed my order with him. I also found him to be very reasonable, price-wise, certainly much cheaper than buying on the UK mainland. Your best bet is to contact him directly with your requirements. If you want to compare Meade prices, check the dealer listing here: http://www.meade.uk.com

    http://www.astrobuysell.com/uk/ is useful

Also I think you can buy direct from Orion optics for some time now. A high quality item, with many upgrades ($$$) available.
