I am an unemployed Chartered Engineer with over seven years in the Irish private consultancy market. It appears that work relevant to my skills are thin on the ground. Hence I need to consider a potential change of career to get through this recession. Can anyone offer perals of advice on changing careers, or can anyone advise of fields of work which I could go into and successfully secure employment?

    cheers

Look at what skills you have and what you enjoy doing: the book 'what colour is your parachute' by Richard Nelson Bolles is really good: you can do a workshop in it run by this guy: I have attended his classes in the past and found them good (no affiliation) http://www.brianmcivor.com/index.php?page=workshops.

I did his weekend workshop about 8 years ago and came out with a list of 16 jobs I might be suited to : it was up to me then to go and explore them........

Just a thought, best of luck with it...........
