    Hi

I am looking to get a second car for commuting to work in, I would be travelling around 400-500 miles a week, so am lokoing for something fairly comfortable and relatively reliable, Budget is around €4000 to €6000
I was thinking of an avensis, no problem in bringing in from england if need be
    anyone got any suggestions????

presume diesel makes sense cost wise?

Have you considered a Citroen C5, they're a bit of a minger looks wise but they are very comfortable and quite reliable in diesel form, cheap too.

They need regular maintenance on the suspension however, thats the payoff for the magic carpet ride.

what would the reliability be like of the citreon anyone know
    especially with high mileage
heard there suspension can play up and costs a lot?

had an avensis before and then generally are very reliable up to 150000 at least

the diesels are bullet proof. they should do 200000 miles easily with regular servicing

    cheers

would be more drawn towards a toyota avensis though...
anyone have one with 120k miles or more on them
see them in england with 90k miles on them and cheap enough
would i expect much trouble getting one up to 150k miles or that?

    thanks

Had an 01 passat sport 130 bhp 6 speed for 4 years great car.

Climate control plenty of power should be good for 160k miles

The suspension thing is only a myth. And to a guy who knows what he's doing its easier to sort out than fitting new shocks. C5 diesels can clock huge mileage and are good value compared to Toyotas. Cant knock Toyota's though, they do last forever and a day. Mondeo's are the best kept secret ever. Taxi men are driving them so that says it all...:)

diesel modeo, cheap, solid, simple, have had, and sold quite a few. and seen many of them go through 4 years on contract lease a good few doin over 100 thousand miles with nothin major comin other than servicing.

C5s proved to be pretty reliable too in fairness to them. and the suspension didnt give up on any of them. the citroen suspension thing is quite exaggerated really, the older ones, BXs, XMs, now they could give trouble but not so much the c5s.

I have a 1.9d 96 Xantia, and while its a complete banger, the engine and suspension are great. I'd say the C5 is the same. They are simply the best car around for easing out rough surfaces and speedbumps. Oh and the odometer froze at 196k and theat was 9 months ago. The engine actually sounds like it will never stop going.

I think you have to replace the suspension spheres every 40 or 60k I think, like has been said its not a big job for an experienced mechanic. They're great tow cars too as the suspension self levels so it won't bottom out with a heavy trailer.

That said those 406 Rapiers are really nice inside.

I had a couple of citroens, bxs and xantia diesels. Very comfortable and engines are quite reliable. They can be finicky when they go wrong and most mechanics hate them ! Hard to get rid of them on trade in also. Focus or mondeo diesels are bulletproof at moment and definitely good for 200k. ;);)

You should be able to get a run out Peugeot 406 HDi model on that budget. Run out model 406 had lots of nice toys like half leather seats, climate control, auto lights and rain sensing wipers. Try for the 110bhp version. Very comfy seats also which is important when you are driving alot of miles.

Was in a taxi over in england and yerman was driving an 03 406 Diesel. He had clocked up over 200,000 miles and had all going things to say about the car when I asked him about its mileage.
