Renting apartments in the US through Craigslist

    I wrote asking about this in the New York thread but I'm not getting any feedback so as a general query has anyone rented an apartment through Craigslist advertisings?
    I'm afraid of paying money to someone who has a false advertisement. The advert I've been in touch with someone about is being posted up every day on the site and the price is reasonable. She told me a deposit of $200 is required to book and then paid in full when we meet her at the apartment.
    I'd hate to commit and find she doesn't show up:mad:

    At least the payment is through paypal so I'd say it's safe to assume it's genuine.
    Any experiences?
