Radio Company Currently Blasting Out The Hits On College Park

What's the story with the massive truck blasting out the latest hits outside the Pav?

People are trying to work! There were one or two people who'd wandered over to the truck to give out as I was passing (presumably from the Physics department given their attire! and no... it wasn't me). It's college security who they should be on the phone to. Amplified music is specifically mentioned in the Rules & Regulations. It's a disgrace that a company who's in the business of selling advertising has been allowed to destroy the collegiate atmosphere and cause a disturbance in this way; regardless of whether they have permission to be there or not.

A bunch of unbooted, jeans-wearing idiots have decided to play touch rugby on the rugby pitch and a crew of frisbee-playing people have decided to join them.

This is a university, not a middle class play-ground (although you'd wonder sometimes). We don't want an NUIG situation on our hands.

Pull your head, out of your ass.

If you don't like TCD (And I wonder sometimes, ALL YOU DO IS COMPLAIN) leave! Find another uni, one that's up to your "Standards"

Bonus points to Baza for use of the word "twonk".

I think they key to coping with cantab. (has a ring to it) is to never, by any means, take anything he says seriously. Behind the veil of the internet it's easy to pretend he's just a construct of the collective TCD goers imaginations, purely there to remind ourselves that we must be careful not to fall into that stereotypical "Trinners" persona that haunts us all!

(a stab in the dark here - does anyone remember muiris off the late late show? Similar story there)

Honestly he makes me chuckle every post!

Also, on topic- Feck off FM104, all you do is yap and play ****e music.

I was hoping if he's abused enough he'll get the picture and leave.

    I'm mistaken?

Well obviously, if Cantab. says it, then it's wrong, even if it affects people's study.

Also: SU hustings was quite clearly audible in the 1937 Reading Room. As was the taxi protest, but that's not the fault of anyone in TCD.

I actually kind of like having Cantab. around these days. His outrage is [or appears to be] quite tongue-in-cheek, though I don't doubt there's a core of sincerity behind it all. And he riles people so well!

Because of those taxi drivers I had to walk up the street, and then I had to listen to them beeping and doing that beep tune. and then they had a van with music coming out of it. It was really bad. Fair enough they want to get their point across, but come on. The market should balance itself out and they cant dictate that just because they have a license that other people cant one. also i was suprised that they would waste petrol driving through the town. Anyways there is more important issues on hand.

also i seen that radio van thing. Maybe it would be ok to have it in freshers week or sometime but not at a time when exams and schols are not looming over the students......

At least none of you were around when they were building the new building across the road from the Hamilton. Very distracting

It's there for Law Day. It was organised to station there in return for announcing the fact that students will be collecting change around the city all day, and for advertising the several fund-raising events going on. All the money raised is going to the cancer society. Obviously, this conclusively proves that Cantab. hates cancer, people with cancer, and anything connected with helping people suffering from cancer. What a tool.

    Yes, masturbation causes cancer.

Oh and collecting money is also specifically mentioned in the Rules & Regulations.

It is neither necessary nor sufficient to act like a tool in order to do charitable works. I would argue that events like those today reflect negatively on both the radio station and the Irish Cancer Society (I'm sure they're a noble bunch under it all). I'll definitely be thinking twice before turning my dial to "FM104" or dropping my spare change in an Irish Cancer Society bucket, when there are countless other charities vying for loose change.

To those who pissed off half of my department (amongst others) in the name of charity: I tell you solemnly, you've had your reward.

BTW, are there any SU candidates who plan on lobbying for the installation of a water slide? What about that chap who I saw wandering about on stilts the other day?

Whatever I may have said in the past, I thoroughly agree that punishing cancer research because you dislike a radio station is completely rational.

Yes, a snotty post from some guy on boards. That's us told.

I hate these dumb Dublin radio stations with their inane banter and the usual playlist of crap songs. Grrr!!! They specifically should not be allowed on campus. Trinity is the country's leading college and should have a certain amount of self respect by not allowing such rubbish inside it's gates.

What the REAL problem is is damn fire engines going up and down Pearse Street. Some of us are trying to LEARN, you know!

Didn't hear anything from said van today, though most of my thursday lectures are in a dungeon. Saw it as I was leaving... pretty tacky, alright. Not my kind of thing at all, but if it helps to raise money for charity, I suppose it can't be too bad.

Try living near Pearse St. (or facing it - I had hoped AAP would have shielded New Square from it a bit, but no) - it gets even worse.
