if i buy the car i would look to take the ferry back most probably the hollyhead to dublin/dun laoighaire route, again if anyone has any experience/advice i'd be most gratefull

    thanking you in advance.

I did this with my car, I bought it at a dealer who was about 20 mins away from Gatwick airport, Very handy, no probs drove back getting the Holy head to Dublin Ferry. (there are some great tunnels you go through in Wales on the main road back, put the windows down and sink the boot! great fun!)

~Edit. go early in the day, first flight, if its possible, my dealer picked me up from the airport!

Renting a car might be cheaper, most companies have multiple drop off points

Just get the tube to White city (and walk up Scrubs Lane) or Latimer road and take a £5 cab ride from there.

    +1

Just get the tube. It will only cost a few quid. I have only driven up there myself when I lived in London but there are a few stations around the area. Willesden junction on the bakerloo line is close also.

    Have a look here http://www.tfl.gov.uk.

On the topic of the ferry back. Unless you are going to the dublin or surrounding area I would go from Pembroke or Fishguard to Rosslare. Its very easy to get to, just out the M4 and keep going. When you get to the end of the M4 both ports are well sign posted and its much shorther than driving up to hollyhead.. I have done the trip 3 times. Google maps says 4 hrs 13 mins(once you get moving on the M4) but I have done it in around 3hrs 30 mins or less I cannot remember correctly( no stops though)

Get the dealer to collect you at the airport....it's the least they could do if they want your money. Another advantage of this method is you'll get to test drive the car on the journey back to the garage.

They don't really do pick ups, in the same way Tesco wouldn't pick you up from the airport to buy a pint of milk.

ok thanks, misunderstood the context of the post thought his issue was something more nefarious, anyone got any experience dealing with cargiant, any ideas on what to look for as a discount when haggling etc

Do a search of the forum, this has been discussed a lot. Cargiant don't discount AFAIK. I would certainly advise an AA inspection as who knows where there stock comes from.

I bought 2 cars from them in the last 6 months and was happy enough, there is deffinately no haggling over the price, although they did knock 200 quid off a car a mate of mine bought because it wasn't valetted.

Try to get as late a ferry as possible if doing it in one day - I was there at 10am and just about made the 2.30am ferry next morning, although I did have a few hiccups on the day with the car I picked.

I didn't bother getting an AA check done - I felt they were a reputable enough firm, but that's my opinion.
