Ok another thread about depression. i am on anti-depressant tablets with about 4 months and also seeing a counsellor. things are good now but in about 2 months i will be coming off the tablets. will all the old feelings come back once i come off the tabs? i don't know whether im feeling good from the tabs or counsellor. this is not a medical question mods. im just wondering if anyone else has had experience with anti-depressant tablets and what things were like once they come off them. i also feel more confident now too - tabs or counsellor - i don't know which it is.

To be honest it really depends on the person and their reason for going on the medication in the first place. Some people only need them in the short term, some need them for decades.

If you are doing well with your counsellor and actually addressing the issues that cause your depression, making positive changes in your life and all that then great. Also if the doctor is happy to take you off them after 6 months then they obviously think that you have a good chance of being grand.

The main thing is not to build it up in your head as a terribly scary thing. No doubt you will have some side effects when you discontinue but that will be normal. Once you have been off them for a month or two, long enough to clear them out of your system, you will know how you feel. If it doesn't work, well you can just go back to your doctor and start again. It will be a bit of hassle, but nothing to worry about.
