I am childminder and I want to set up a small creche in my house. I have applied for planning permission. Several days ago I had inspection from County. The Planning Officer took pictures of rooms and children. She did not ask me about the permission. The parents are very angry with this situation.

Does anyone know if the inspector can take pictures of rooms and children?

they would be aloud to take pics of rooms but not of the children ,
i would get on to the council planning and ask for this photos to be destroyed or handed to you as parents or not to happy about it..

She she most certainly should not. Most schools have very strict guidelines on the use of photography (e.g. only school cameras to be used, permission given for publication on website etc. etc.). TBH she probably should have been stopped.

Absolutly not allowed. Make a formal complaint to the council and request that these photographs and negatives be returned or destroyed immediately . Forward a copy of the complaint to your solicitor to have on file. If you do recieve a satisfactory response, go further with your complaint.

I hope the parents are justifiably angry with you as you were the one who's responsibility it was to safeguard their children from this kind of action by an unknown (to them) adult, someone who had no business mingling with, observing or photographing children.

If you are not aware of the childrens' rights and your responsibilities to them and their parents, I question whether this line of work is suitable for you.

You didn't intervene and now you wonder if you should have.

    Mathepac, that's not particularly helpful.
