Anyone know whats wrong with my 206??

I have a 01 Peugeot 206 with about 80000 miles on it, and recently, I have been having problems with it. When I am stopped at a junction/traffic lights, it won't move off in 1st gear- it literally just revs but won't move. Its happened about 6 times since January. I have figured out that if I am in heavy traffic or in danger, I can move off in 3rd gear. The way I have fixed the problem until now is by putting it into reverse, and the car moves off in 1st gear then with no problem.

I got my car serviced just before xmas, so can't see why there could be anything major wrong.

    Any Ideas Please??

sounds like clutch problem....nothing to do with servicing it....get garage to check it for you.

Nothing to do with it being French. 206's clutches are known to give up the ghost around 80-100k. Thrust bearing usually goes first. Did you hear any sort of whirling noise from the engine when you lifted your foot of the clutch? Sounds like its nearly burnt out anyway. Straight to the mechanic because if you dont its just going to come to a halt some day soon.

Servicing will never give your car a clean bill of health. There are only some basic things that they look at and unless something is obviously broken, they won't see it. Plus if something breaks, it has to start some time and that time could have been since you got your car serviced. It's not the garage's fault. These things just happen.

Saying that, definitely the clutch is about to give up. Get it sorted now before you are stranded.

The OP mentioned something about using 3rd gear. If it moves on ok from standstill on 3rd gear it is probably not the clutch.

If I remember correctly some Peugeot boxes had issue before where gearboxes had internal slippage like a cog spinning around a shaft. Could be related?
