    Hi,

I’m looking for the best route from Dublin City centre to Limerick on a Friday evening. Usually go down the quays, take a left at Heuston, right just after Heuston onto St Johns Road then onto Con Colbert Road…on through Inchicore on R110, cross canal, up to Red Cow & Naas Road.

Last week it took an hour and 20 mins to get to Red Cow – just over 4 miles!!! Is there any better way to approach the Naas Rd from City Centre??

    Cheers,
    Tom

Go straight at Heuston, park and get a train? :)

I wonder, depending on you travel patterns, might it make sense to park in Adamstown or Clondalkin-Fonthill on Friday morning and get a train into work?

This isn't for work but the commute home on Friday evenings. Not willing to spend €58 on the train every weekend when I get almost 650 miles to a €60 tank of diesel!

Any variant of the above is 50/50 on improving your time. You can end up far worse off. Better to stick to that route if you're coming from town.

The only (unhelpful) advice one can give is to travel later. I do. When I'm heading south, if I leave my place (Grand Canal Dock area) at about 8 I can generally hit the red cow for 8.30. I also then meet less breaking fools and trucks overtaking at 95km/h on the M7. You get home a bit later, but far less stressed.

Even leaving at 7 would make a difference. Relax, go for a munch and a strong coffee and you'll have a much more pleasant experience

Is there anyway to continue on at the ocn colbert road rather than turning left for kilmainham/inchicore and end up on a bit of the M50 so that you are approaching the Red Cow at the M50 off ramp rather than from the Naas road? Whats the traffic like this way around 4.30 on Fridays?

You can continue on yes, and get on the m50 at Junction 7 (N4). However, this involves getting through Palmerstown on a Friday evening which is difficult as far as I'm aware.

Possibly worth a shot, but the off ramp for the m50 at Junction 9 (red cow, n7) can be busy - mind you, I haven't got off that since the red cow went nearly free flow.

A second alternative is to stay on the Con Colbert Road and take the next off slip for ballyfermot, continue onto ballyfermot rd to the roundabout and take first exit for kylemore road.

On a Friday evening, this is hit and miss. But Kylemore Road will bring you all the way to the Naas road. I'm not 100% sure you can turn right here onto Naas road, you might have to go on 200m to long mile rd, but you can certainly turn on at least one of them.

Might be worth giving one of the other options a try. The first option sounds a bit dodge, to me, as you're fighting a large chunk of one Friday exodus route (Galway and the west), to find a roundabout way to another.

To be honest I try different things sometimes anyway. If I've something different to look at, I sometimes don't find the traffic as stressful.
