No audio output device is installed

    ok just turned the laptop on and seen a red and white X going accross my sound icon down the bottom it says no audio output device is installed . when i go to control panel and sounds and playback settings same thing comes up no audio device is installed. anyone any idea's. i installed updates for windows earlier and one of them was for realteak sounds but when i go to installed updates i cant find it , they all just come up as windows updates and theres 6 of them .

    well all i done was plugged my headphones in and bobs your uncle everything was back to normal even without the headphones

    the other solution is that sometimes people uninstall the audio driver , and have to reinstall it ,
    my sony laptop uses Realtek Semiconductor Corp

    same here i installed an update for it and then my audio wouldnt work until i put my headphones in
