Extend battery life

    Is there an operating system that just plays media files.

    If i want to go on a long journey and dont need to use windows is there a facility that will allow me to only play media files and wont be taking up resources and eating my battery

    I don't think so but you can set the display on the lappy to turn off after just a minute or two, should give much longer battery life.

    I have a dell vostro i know the xps's have a mdeia direct button which is something like what im trying to achieve#

    That just boots into a stripped down version of linux to let you play your files.

    MythBuntu or MeediOS may be what you're looking for, a linux OS dedicated to playing media files. How it'll impact on your battery life, however, I don't know.

    Learn to Underclock your laptop. It'll give you an extra 10 mins or so battery life and make it run down slower.

    Some Latitude models have Latitude ON where the Notebook can rapidly boot a lightweight Linux that runs on a separate low power ARM processor (up to 19 hours battery life).
