'My mate and I started .22 target shooting last year but would now would like to be able to go rough shooting, we have also just put in for our shotgun licences.I have approached a couple of shooting clubs in Wexford and Wicklow and was told that we could not join them as we were not residents in the prospective county. Does anybody know where I would go from now to either join a hunting club or apply to someone to shoot on their land.cheers pkaner:eek:

    Approach land owners themselves.

The gun clubs wont let you in but the land owners may give you permission so I'd approach some of them if I were you.

It not just a case of not getting in because your not from the area, I cant get into the gun club in my own parish because i'm not in the "click" I am a member of another club who is very good and open to new members provided they participate in the club. I have side stepped my local club and got permission direct from the farmers.

its a pity that some clubs have the blinkers on, I would have been very happy to participate in my local club had I been given the opportunity.... it is now there loss as they are down the membership few plus a very willing volunteer...

Ask around some of the farmers, they will usally give you permission to shoot. That's how I have got most of my permissions.

And only just today my son was given a new permissiong about 15 miles off, where he saw plenty of rabbits. So that's also another one for me :D

Thanks for the advice I will approach the farmers,it is also the loss of a club as we would have made good active members willing to muck in.
