new key wont work

    Hi all, just hopin I could get some help, my partner was changing the shell of his vw passat (02) and now when he puts it in the ignition it will not start the car and the immobiliser light is on the dash. The car will unlock alright, but the car wont turn over :(

    If he replaced the key itself then most likely the new key has to be recoded so that the immobiliser accepts it.

    If it's a new key then the car will turn over but won't start as the transponder in the key will have to be programmed to the immobiliser using vag tacho or similar.
    My advice would be to go to a decent locksmith and stay well away from vw as they'll charge an arm and a leg for a reasonably quick fix.
