There's about 3 or 4 different tools to take it off with, each has it's own advantages, depends really the type of filter you have and the access there is to it as to which one is best to use. It's most likely located underneath at the centre of the car, should be able to see it fairly easy.

No because you'll have drained the old oil and gotten rid of it before you take off the filter.:)

Buy a haynes manual, it will tell you all you need to know!

There will still be oil in the filter so you would need to keep the open end up after taking it off.

Yes, there will be oil left in the filter and this will spill when you remove it. Wont be much but have something ready - basin, cloth ect..

Some oil will be contained in the filter, so care is needed to avoid a mess. Strategically located spill tray is best.

PVC gloves, beloved of the airport security cavity searches are an ideal way to keep the oil and grease residue away from your skin and nails.

Most filters will come off by hand, but occasionally a strap wrench is needed. In emergency, the old filter can be drifted loose with an old screwdriver and hammer, but be very careful. Don't resort to punching a hole in it, that just creates a world of hassle.

Rub a little of the new oil on the o-ring before reinstalling. Makes a better seal.

Edit: As always, the 'net is full of information on matters such as this. If you don't know what you're doing, for God's sake go and learn ;)

Thats a given. I thought he was hinting that he's not changing the oil.
