American eBay fraudster

I won a BIN auction on eBay US for a dvd clearly marked a STEELBOOK case but the seller sent me the regular case version. The Steelbook version is rare.

He said he would provide a refund if I sent it back which I did two weeks ago. However he is now claiming he hasn't received it. I sent it back by normal post not recorded as the price from Ireland to America would have made getting a refund pointless.

I filed a claim with PayPal under "Not as described". However I got a message from PayPal telling me to send the item back to the seller and provide tracking details (which I don't have)

I'm very angry...it looks like he's gotten away with both my money and the dvd.

It seems if you use eBay a great deal (as opposed to the infrequent shopper) you can get wise to the system and know how to cheat people.

PayPal is hopeless..I should have lied and filed an "item not received" claim. This is a couple of times where I've had to return goods and been done.

Why is the eBay community site such a mess? I went there looking for help and there's like 18 different discussion boards or answer centres or whatever it's a joke.

I've just done another search on eBay US and the seller is still listing the item as a STEELBOOK when he doesn't have it at all. It seems cheats really do prosper and it's on eBay.

Scamming can happen on both sides of a transaction, that's why you need to send an item back by trackable delivery if you file a SNAD dispute with PayPal.

Well OP you should certainly have returned the item by recorded delivery and I have to agree with you, as a regular eBay seller/buyer, their entire system sucks! I have reported clear examples of rogue buyers/sellers on a number of occasions but no action is ever taken. As PayPal is owned by eBay don't expect much help from that quarter either. :)
