Does anybody here have any knowledge of the BioGas process, I'm finding it hard to find any information online, basically I want a brief description, pros and cons of the process, so i can look into it in more detail. Mods feel free to move this thread if in wrong area.

So you dont know anything about it and yet you're lodging an objection... great!

Biogas digestors are one of the least objectible things I can think of. There should be a lot more of them in the country. Very cheap and efficient way of producing energy and processing waste.

What are they using as a feedstock?

To the best of my knowledge its animal bone or similar. I'm not objecting for the sake of it, but there is a lot of concern in the area about offensive odours, and the volume of HGV'S on minor roads.

I have visited a couple of biogas plants and the odour is neglibible to zero. There would be more odour from a slurry pit in my experience. It is an anaerobic digestor after all. There is no oxygen in the process and it is airtight or the gas would escape.

I cant really comment on the hgv issue only that it would have to be a very big plant for this to impact on your local roads.

Large scale Biogas plants are quite popular in Continental Europe there are some units operating in Ireland quite a few of them in the North.

Micro scale plants are hugely popular in India and lots of information on the basic process and equipment is available if you google "Gobar Gas" its just what the indians call biogas.
