Mark II Golf GTi

I looking to buy a post 1989 Mk II Gti as a second car, something a little fun that won't break the bank. Idealy I would love a 16v that's as close to stock as possible. Does anyone know any dealer or garage that specialises in old VW's?

I've come across a few in the UK but I'd rather buy here for the sake of convenience. I haven't had much luck looking for one in this country, a lot of them are in terrible condition are or horribly modified. I'm not looking for something in concours condition but I would like it to be in decent nick.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    www.vagdrivers.net

Throw your eyes over the for sale section there.

theirs a blue one up on carzone for 1500 notes... if you remove the silly stickers and the white alloys i think theirs a salvageable car behind it all so... yeah... doubt its a 16v...

but the gti should be enough to get your spots appearing and pulses racing.

My cousin is selling his, but I think it's going for a bit more than the 1500 one mentioned above. PM me if you want the details.

You're going to find it hard to get a clean one here but as somebody already said check with the guys on vagdrivers.net

If it were me I would be straight to the uk.Have a look on

    www.pistonheads.co.uk

There are plenty of enhusiasts on this site and you are bound to get a clean straight one there.

Best of luck with the search.Along the Mark I, the Mark II is probably my favourite of the GTIs

I know it's not original but it wouldn't take much to get it back standard. Grill, tail lights and wheels. In fact I have more tail lights than VW at this stage :)

If you can stretch, try http://www.volkswizard.co.uk/ although he's not stocking as many Mk2's as he used to.

There's plenty on vagdrivers from time to time alright, often cheaper than a UK car & VRT. Be prepared to spend time searching though, there's a lot of rough ones out there.

In the meantime, may I suggest reading my very own buyers guide (and yes, that is my Golf):

Thanks a lot for the tips guys, I've been looking at the sales forum vagdrivers.net and there are one or two over there that are catching my eye.

Klaus that is an absolutely superb write up. It's exactly was I was looking for, I've been scouring the internet for days looking for that kind of info.

Vagdrivers.net would be your best bet for a clean gti. Everyone on there is pretty honest and helpful when it comes to selling cars and giving advice. A friend of mine has had quite a few gti's over the years and he swears by the 8v mkII instead of the 16v
