    Anyone done the week long chainsaw course with Coillte? Is it a good course? Any feedback appreciated. Paul

    I did a 3 week course with Coillte some years ago- I couldn't recommend it highly enough. Most of our practice was on thinnings- but we also had the opportunity to be accessed on larger dbh fellings (all softwood).

    Seriously recommend you borrow a tree-surgeons saw for the course- as the arms will be pulled off you in no time if you turn up with something massive. The guys on my course laughed when they saw my saw on the first day- but 2 of them went to Roundwood that evening and bought similar saws after their experiences Day 1.

    When I did my course it was a British certification- this might have changed in the interim.
