deaspratly seeking computer help

    My computer has died!! turned on this morning... nothing. just vaio on the screen immediately without sort of start up. not able to start on safe mode or anything.
    dont know if it is revelent but I just attached an external hard drive last night.
    Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

    It is probably trying to boot off the external harddrive. Unplug it and restart, let me know if it works

    Was it a new hardrive?

    Did you disconnect the new HDD before shutting down the PC, or after? If after, power off the PC, reconnect the HDD and try again.

    oh yeah yeah.... god bless you. I unplugged the ex harddrive and computer started no bother. Thing is now.. do I just unplug hard drive every time before I start computer? I dont mind doing that but is there some way to sort it out..

    In BIOS, set your boot order to exclude USB and removable storage devices. That should stop it trying to boot from the removable HDD

    aaahm BIOS? what is that how do I find it.. any chance you could give me step by step. I am a tech virgin :-)

    press f2 or f11 at startup
    it will say to enter setup press ??
    do that before the laptop starts up
