Stanley oil shire stove & electricity power cut

As is very common, we suffered an electricity power cut today. I was at work and my stanley oil shire stove (10 years old) is always on 24/7. However, when the electricity came back on, of course the stove started filling with oil but had gone out during the power cut. Now my problem is that there is oil in the channels and I am fearful of turning it on before it really takes of. Another problem is that there is a small dribble of oil underneath the appliance, which I have cleaned up - presuming it is an overflow (not much mind you). I rang the plumber and he says, go ahead and start it without of course, the usual process of filling it with oil, and it will burn of. Now do I need to put the fire brigade on full alert? or will it just do that, burn it off. Dammed ESB and their SO regular power cuts where I live....Airtricity begining to look good for my dosh! OK, just to be serious for a mo, if I light it using the electrical system burner, will it be OK? Need help here and some confidence without incurring a call out fee from my plumber?
