You're probably better off using a site like gaire or angrypotato or queerid who have meet-ups of people in real life. You get some idea of people through their posts.
I've heard good reports of planetsappho.com but I think you have to pay for that.

If its not necessarily dating but just meeting more people and socialising I'd recomment angrypotato.net It's good fun, even just as an online forum but they also have "meets" and everyone's lovely, a lil bit crazy (in a quirky way) but lovely.
