Hey there, my best mate did Forestry in uni, I did Ag Science so we were in the same faculty.
He works with Coillte now and has a good job, managing forests for Coillte customers. Seems like a nice job if your into it. Of course like all sectors of the economy forestry has been hit by the downturn so no doubt the jobs market is tough right now.

I did forestry in UCD. Of my class of 8, 3 are now working in the wider forestry industry, 1 is an estate agent in Portlaoise, 1 is a primary school teacher, 1 is happily running her own shoe shop, 1 has emigrated to Australia, and 1 is a computer programmer.

It depends on a lot of different factors- your degree does not guarantee you a job- your peripherals skills are of at least as much use to you.

did you do the degree or the Masters? I'm curious about this too. I'm doing accountancy at the moment but i don't like it at all and i'm thinking of changing careers altogether. I did a BSc in Botany in college, and i flirted with the idea of doing forestry when i left college and now i wish i had. what a brainfart accountancy has turned out to be. The only thing is, i'm almost 29, and i could be 32 before i am ready for a job in forestry, that's if i even get in to a course. In non-recession times whats the market like?
