Sky Cable length

Hey ppl, just an inquiry about sky related cables here.

Firstly the coax. Hoping to get HD and + so that'll be 4 cables. Dish at the front I'm assuming, however the cables need to go in at the back. One of the rooms is at the back and the other 2 cables are going to go through that back room into a front room. It's the best way to hide the cables.

Secondly the phone line. I'll need 2 phone line cables running from the computer room (left side of house) to the two rooms with the boxes (right side). With the hallway in between, the phone line will need to go out and in at the back where the coax is coming in.

    1. Do sky have a limit on the length of coax they can use and does this limit take into account large installations with 4 cables etc.
    2. Can I instruct the installer to run the 4 cables around the back of the house (semi-detached) instead of over the roof, which I assume he'll try to do as I've seen it a lot b4.
    3. Inside the house will the installer attach the cables to the skirting board or do any other way to tidy them up
    4. Is there a limit on the phone cable length and will Sky drill out from the computer room, down the side passage and into the back room?
    5. Another thing is the LNB. I'm assuming they'll give me a quattro however I may want to add in FTA later so I really need an octo LNB. Do you have to pay for this or can you just request it over the phone as part of the installation.
    6. I have cables already for FTA and if I have the cable sticking out the front wall would the installer be kind enough to add an extension of coax and connect them to the dish??

    Thanks in advanced

    1. we just run whatever length we need to get the job done.

    2. depends on how far the semi is from the next house. if i can't get my ladders up safely its over the roof they go.

    3. skirting board. we ain't insured to do anything else. says it on your contract, and also on under the sky card when you peel it off.

    4. again get it fone, again depending if its accessible with the ladders.

    5. depending on who drops out, we might have an octo in the van. no sky won't hand it over, but we may carry ones we#ve bought ourself to sell if customer wants this.

    6. depends on the person, entitled to ask for money if he wants to as its extra. time depending also.

    hope this helps!

    Good article on coax cable

    http://www.glodark.com/cable.htm

Generally good RG6 is fine, CT100 if you like though its double the price.

CT100 hasn't been manufactured since 2005. Sky will not even consider using RG6 (aluminium foil screen). So you need to be using WC100 or WF100 or a good equivalent (there are some really bad "equivalents").

Putting a cable over a roof is never a good idea but, if there's no other route, it must be clipped to every 2nd tile and the section going over the ridge must be protected. Failure to do this always results in the cable sheath chafing and rainwater running down inside.

If you are in any doubt, run the cable yourself or get a professional to do it.
