Are you using a scart lead or Scart adaptor? is so should be just a matter of hitting the AV button. If using the RF lead, most likely you'll have to pick a channel and tune it in yourself.

As far as I remember the SNES only ever came with a RF lead... Not sure if this will help you, but if you have a gamecube you could alway use its AV lead for the SNES - will be a better picture than the RF cable that you're most likely trying to use...

Mine came with a special AV cable, they were available separately I remember, I'm fairly sure that RF to Scart adaptors exist, no idea what they would do for the quality though.

i turned off the dodgey box and put it back to basic cable and plugged in the rf cable and on one station it looks like im getting somekind of weird signal that is different from everyother channel.ill try tune it in see what i get.think its because the old tv's used to come with a video channel that also worked old consols and new tv's dont...so ill see if i can tune it in...

This is going to sound a bit weird....but when you go to tune it in, if the tv scrolls through certain frequency numbers, the snes number is 36....it should come out straight away, or at least to on my tv anyway ;)

cant even find the tuning in button on these new fanct remotes that have about a hundred useless buttons on it!Grrrr it was so much easier back in the day when it was jsut so basic!

You are probably getting a horrendous signal quality from that RF cable. I'd get a proper RGB scart Gamecube cable (not the red yellow and white cables) if you are serious about it. I remember I refused to play my dreamcast on RF because it looked atrocious and all the colours were wrong. You will have to modify it but it's extremely easy to do. Check here:

    http://www.mmmonkey.co.uk/console/nintendo/pal-snes-rgb.htm

RGB scart looks gorgeous on the SNES. The old SNES could really output some beautifully vibrant graphics.

The RF outputs on channel 36, 591.25 MHz. I'd love to see a SNES running in RGB though. :)

Super Metroid and the mario games just look gorgeous through it. However the rare games look the best since they run full screen and at full speed. A sight to behold ;)

Our new massive flat screen telly was supposed to be deliverd last week, still no sign of it but when it comes I'll defo hook the Snes (amongst others) up to give Mario World and Supe ghouls and Ghosts a wizz.

It's a pity the Super Scope and NES Zapper don't work on LCD TVs. :(

The games weren't exactly great on them though.

If you are hooking the SNES up to a HD TV you will need a scart cable otherwise it's going to look like a blurry mess. I much prefer the sharp edged pixel look form the scart :)

    Hi all,

I'm trying to get my old Sony Trinitron TV to talk to my Snes. It's all wired up properly. I'm on channel 36, manually tuning my way through. How should I proceed?

Edit: I read a few other threads online. Got it working.

The frequency you need in on the U band at around 591.25Mhz. Your milage may vary. Auto tune worked for me. Just be sure to clean the slot and cartridge before you begin. Tune with the console turned on, obviously.

You need to get rid of that RF cable and get an RGB scart cable. The picture quality is absolutely horrendous through RF.
