Terrestrial & Satellite in One Cable

    I have one terrestrial aerial in the loft. The coax goes to a central location. I have a number of cables coming from the quad lnb satellite dish (freesat) to the same location. There is one cable going from this central location to each room. I can put a separate freesat receiver in each room.

    Please recommend products to combine the terrestrial signal and the satellite signal at the central location to serve four rooms. The terrestrial signal needs to be split and then each split combined with each cable coming from the quad lnb?

    Whatever is recommended, how will the changeover to DTT be affected if at all?

    You need an amplifier for the aerial to give you an output for each room and you can combine this with a satellite feed using a diplexer/combiner , you then use a diplexer combiner in the room to restore separate aerial and satellite feeds.

    What type of amp would you recommend. also does the use of a combiner/diplexor cause lossof signal.
    thanks

    I use and sell these http://www.satellite.ie/acatalog/Triax_6_Way_Bi_Directional_Amplifier.html

    Combiner causes negligible loss of signal

    Ok, this is also of interest to me, although I have no real knowledge in this area. :(

    So the cables could be connected in the attic say with a diplexer/combiner and then in the room via a faceplate such as this right?

    Some faceplates say screened or unscreened - whats the difference ? Interference?

    And if you wanted to use something like this, I am assuming you would require 2-3 cables, right?

    Thanks in advance for the input.

    Yes faceplates work just as well as separate diplexeres. If you have more than one satellite outlet you need two or more cables. Screened/unscreened may refer to voltage pass althouigh i've seen this term used to describe different attributes.

    Ok, just to confirm I understand the required set-up 100%

    Dish LNB -> cable -> combiner/diplexer
    Aerial -> cable -> amp -> combiner/diplexer

    From there single cable to another combiner/diplexer or faceplate in viewing location.

    Each connection/feed therefore requires its own combiner/diplexer, right ? or is there a better way where multiple rooms are say fed back to the attic with one cable per room?

    Thanks again.

    Correct

    You've lost me there, there is always one cable per room unless you using a pvr like sky plus or hd which needs two

    Sorry, I guess basically what I was wondering was could you also take one sat feed from the dish and feed that to an Amp also, then to the combiner/diplexer.

    Dish LNB -> single cable -> amp -> combiner/diplexer
    Aerial -> single cable -> amp -> combiner/diplexer

    Or can a single amp take an aerial & sat feed ?

    I was also wondering if there was a multi combiner/diplexer unit ?

    Hope I am clearer now........:o

    Sat feeds cannot be fed through amps but you could use a multiwsitch and quattro lnb (not quad) with 4 cables from dish and one from terrestrial aerial. Its a neat solution for four or more outlets especially when pvr's are involved as they need two sat feeds

    Yeah, my existing amp only takes the return feed from my sky box and redistributes around the house. Good to know they don't support sat feeds or I could have been scratching my head at some point in the future wondering what was wrong. :eek:

    The quattro is an interesting idea, but probably more expensive in the end. My existing sky dish with an Octo LNB might be easier.

    Thanks for your inputs, learned lots today ! :)

    Sorry to come late to the discussion. You seem to have moved on but there's a page about it here: http://www.satcure.co.uk/tech/combiners.htm

    A Triax DDU112 Loft Box might come close to achieving what you want.
