    May be a Cartell problem:

    http://www.motorcheck.ie/Report/ReportStart.aspx?RegNo=02D38552

    VEHICLE
    Vehicle Registration Number 02D38552
    Vehicle Details AUDI / S6
    Change Of Vehicle Ownership
Transferred to an Individual on :

    Notified on : 12/12/2008

    13/02/2009
    Vehicle Registration Certificate
Most recent Vehicle Registration Certificate issued on : 19/02/2009

Looking at those details one garage may have just sold it to the other?

Given that the Kileen info is more than 30 days out of date, and the other says confirmed in stock today, maybe one sold it on to the other?

Except the reg is not the same on both cars. And one of them is supposed to be a Silver VW Polo.

Ah, I missed the cartell bit and thought you'd gone nuts with your mention of polos :)

Looking at the pics originally I thought the plates were photoshopped, but now I'm not so sure. I live close enough to the Kileen one - if I get out at a reasonable time tomorrow I could swing by and take a look if anyone's really curious?

How much do you reckon I should offer them?

Tell them you won't tell anyone if they give you the car for next to nothing

I'd say it's an inter-dealer trade. Car is pictured in Harley Davidson carpark in the Kingsley ad, I'm not sure if it's the same carpark for the Killeen ad.

I'd say inter-dealer trade, and when the new dealer printed and put their branded plates on the car they f*cked up and typo'd the reg.

Someone should make them aware of this before some poor Polo owner gets disqualified when a Gatso catches them doing 155mph...

    Chauffe, Marcel, chauffe!

02D28552 is the reg used for the M50 toll cameras and for blasts up and down the M1 :pac:

I managed to miss the 2/3 difference at the start of the regs, must be blinder than I thought...

One car has 1 previous owner, the other has 2. Trading between garages? Seems odd, and stupid

I actually made enquiries about the Audi/Polo a while back. The reply I got was that the plates were off while it was being valeted (and presumably getting their own branded plates made) and the valeter stuck the wrong plates back on before the pics were taken. He actually mailed me the correct reg and it all checked out with Cartell and carhistorycheck.ie.

From my investigations at least, it seems to be a genuine mistake and nothing underhand. I would have thought they might change the photos once they'd realised though.

Found the mail. Reg is 02-D-38552

Care to share the mail, milltown? (obviously with personal details taken out)

And just to clarify, is your point that the valeting crowd accidentally swapped the 02-D-38552 and 02-D-28552 plates while they were valeting the Polo and the S6?

Full text of short mail from a Jamie Carberry on 21/10/08:

"yes car is still in stock.
new registrations had been put on car by valetor barring wrong registration number
real number is 02-D-38552 AUDI S6
car is still in stock and is in mint condition with low mileage warranty full valet and service."

As I said, seems like an honest mistake was made.

Edit: I hadn't actually noticed just how similar the reg numbers were, I only queried the fact that a 4.2l Audi was checking out as a VW Polo. Seems like they just made a mistake making up the plates perhaps.
