New mac user, problem sending mail

I am a new mac user and always previously used the eircom website for email. Since getting the macbook I cannot access emails from the eircom website, I set up entourage instead which worked perfectly for a few days but recently I can only receive email not send any. Anyone any ideas why?

    Hi porto27,

are you getting "a parsing error has occurred" message when you try to log in to your account?

Have you set up your POP and SMTP addresses correctly, porto27?

(Is Eircom your ISP (internet service provider) - do you pay Eircom to provide your internet service - or do you have your service from another company?)

If Eircom is your ISP, your email settings should be something like this:

    User name: porto27
    Mail server: mail1.eircom.net
    SMTP server: smpt.eircom.net
    email address: porto27@eircom.net

(this is from Eudora, which I use and like as a mailer.)

If, say, your ISP is Irish Broadband, your settings will be the same except for the SMTP server, which should be:

    SMTP server: smtp.irishbroadband.ie

Try changing this - it's in the Preferences in Mail's Mail menu item, as far as I remember. If that doesn't work, phone your ISP and get their help - ask to talk to someone Mac-savvy. It's probably not a Mac problem, though; it's probably an addressing problem.

Incidentally, I'm not having any problem getting into the Eircom website - just tried, for curiosity. Are you absolutely sure you have your username and password right?

Was using 3G mobile so had the wrong settings but just got eircom broadband today and its sorted thanks! Still get the 'parsing error' when I try and access it through the website though for some reason..

    Thanks for your help.

Try using Mozilla thunderbird or iMail

    Melted M&M is right.
But if you still want to access your mail by going to the Eircom homepage then you will have to use Firefox as your browser.
I still get a "parsing error" with Safari, but I generally use Firefox.

Can't access my 365 online banking either for Bank of Ireland, will using Firefox deal with this or did I read on the boards somewhere there is a problem accessing it for mac users?

There should be a section at the bottom of the page when logging in for safari users as below?

    Hi mojorising,

If you want to access your eircom mail you have two options.

Either you use a browser like Firefox to access your mail from the login page on the eircom site or:
the handiest is to add your eircom account to Apple mail(this is what I use having had the same problem as you have).

    Hi Mojorising,

Have you set your outgoing server to "mail1.eircom.net"?

Eircom or any other ISP don't allow relaying from another ISP (if you're with smart you can't send through an eircom account). I generally use the SMTP server of the ISP I'm using and that sorts it out.

I'm also having issues setting up mail accounts, have one since got the MB but new ones won't work.
I'm with BT, outgoing=mail.iol.ie (as bt told me and works for original account) and incoming=pop.mail.yahoo.co.uk. All settings seem the same just won't work, any ideas?
    Thanks.
