can some one help me, i went for an nct test on my toyota avensis 1999 and i failed the test on lambda, it was reading 1.008 and the nct limit is between 0.97-1.3, so i went to my mechanic and he told me the best thing ti do is to go for full emmision test before they would know where the problem is so i went and they did and passed every thing on the emmisiion but the lambda was still reading 1.008,but they told me they don't understand why they failed me because they haven't seen any fault on the emmision, now am in limbo i just don't know what to do, can some one help me what to do please,

Most likely you drive like miss daisy in very low revs or were in slow heavy traffic prior to your test and so there was a big build up of gick which caused it to fail. Most likely when the lads tested it on the full emissions test they drove it like it was stolen and so it passed.

Sorry just to clarify the limits for the NCT are 0.97 -> 1.03

I'm guessing your reading with 1.08, which is outside the limit.

From what i'm reading above, when your mechanic tested the car he also got 1.08, which confirms the NCT reading... is this correct?

Any number of things can cause the lamda reading to be outside the limits. You'll need a mechanic with a gas analyser, who can also diagnose the problem. Could be as simple as a vacuum leak...
