Moving to California

Hi, We are an irish couple planning to move to California. Can any recommend best place to live? We have a year old baby and work in finance. So we need to be in commuting distance. Ideally we would like to be based in a suburb or small town and not in a city centre. We love the ocean and the countryside and are looking for somewhere safe with a community feel to it.

My husband is a stockbroker and is looking into possible job opportunites. Its a long shot if we will in fact be able to get a visa to work but we are giving it a go. We have looked at places between la and sanfran such as Ojai, Oxnard, ventura, san luis obispo, Morgan hill. Any advice welcome:)

Before you go any further you should check your visa situation. There's no point in making all the plans and then discovering your not eligible.
I'd imagine you'd be looking at the 'sponsorship by prospective employer'

everywhere is commuter distance - you dont have a choice ..... buy a comfy car..... you'll be in the car a lot.

Definately check the visa restrictions. Right now they are talking about cutting back on work visa's as it is so bad over here. California is in the doldrums right now like most states im afraid. Everyone seems to talk about canada and there ecomomy still seems to be doing ok. Im not trying to dishearten you , just really check out the facts before you decide to move especially with a baby.
