Yeah, been rumoured for some time now. I was hoping we'd see the new jersey soon.

Not holding out hope that the jersey they will design will be nice. But we'll see and it is a good deal by the sounds of it, especially in these times.

The amount of money on offer for that amount of time is obviously nothing more than pure speculation. €15m going beyond the 2015 RWC is nothing.
There have been no announcements by the IRFU or Puma. as far as I know.

What rugby team is actually sponsored by Puma at the minute?

Just trying to find a pic so I can judge what the Ireland jersey might look like?

    Edit -

    Bath Rubgy I suppose...

I think their jersey looks too much like a soccer jersey/t-shirt

I think all rugby jerseys are going this way, especially nike/addidas/kappa collarless designed jerseys. They all look like they could be soccer shirts... Gone are the days of loose fitted, collar, plain colour shirts! (Which were horrible you must admit!!)

Even if the rumoured €15m deal were to extend all the way to 2019 it's still a great deal for the IRFU. Munster gets €650,000 per year with their current deal and that's with one of the biggest, if not biggest, selling jersey in the world.

Hate the look of the Puma jerseys though.

Yeah I do agree that they were horrible! I like the look of jerseys from the last couple of years, even though they are collarless, I dont think they look like soccer jerseys!

    Fixed that for you.

Didn't think anyone would get the first one so soon, fair play... Its the goalie jersey. The 2nd one is still wrong though.

Has to be an improvement on your current jersey, awful, don't like the cut of the Canterbury ones at all... Although our new one, Wales, with Under Armour aint no great shakes either but they sell by the truck load.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 986 ✭✭✭Bill-e

The puma ones will have no embroidery... Just all cheap tacky printed on crap.

Canterbury aren't the may west but at least they take some effort to make...

However, sometime the embroidering on things can chafe my nipples! haHa it drives me mad!

I actually really like the current jersey. The supporters ones are disgusting, but the real match-fit one is much nicer, good material, nice fit and looks smart - a lot different to any soccer jersey anyway.

I know Canterbury produce the same jersey for everyone and just change the colours, but I reckon the nicest are Ireland and South Africa.

Don't like the sound of this Puma deal...

<MOD EDIT> - removed info from deleted posts

I think the Puma move is a good one, it brings a new company to the fray of irish rugby. And the more competition the better, the more sponsorships deals will be worth.

I think Canterbury had the monopoly on the rugby scene for years, and their designs would be used throughout most clubs and international teams with a few minor adjustments to colour schemes. If you look at the Puma jerseys they are nearly all different in design. Looking forward to seeing it...

I just gave information that was given to me via a reputable source about their own competitors. You don't even take into account that the Springbok jersey is changing, for example. Just that you see people wearing Munster shirts in Ireland.
    Suit yourself.

I look forward to seeing the new Ireland kit and teamwear. The Canterbury leisure wear was top drawer so they've got some fairly tough standards to match up to.

The canterbury thermal hoodies are by far the best piece of sports leisurewear I own - my Leinster one gets worn much too much, its so warm and comfortable. Hope Puma can do a nice Ireland one :P

Thread cleaned of every post not related to Puma jerseys, or at the very least light hearted. Stop bickering like a bunch of kids on every thread.

Man, those Leinster hoodies are unbelievably comfortable. While Canterbury's jerseys are ****e these days, they still make excellent non-jersey teamwear.

The Bath Puma jersey is very nice looking I must say, hopefully we get something similar (though I doubt it).

i suppose the a good point looking at a few of the puma ones they all seem to be different. So they haven't just got one design and change if for everyone else just like canterbury and nike

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 785 ✭✭✭ALH-06

When will the new kit be announced?

Should be interesting but I've got a bad feeling it's gonna be hideous! Puma stuff is touch and go...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,739 ✭✭✭Jello

I'm not a fan of any of the puma stuff I've seen so far... hopefully ours will be nicer.

And it better not be dark green!

The dark green is awfull in fairness.

I hope the Puma stuff won't be too tight fitting, what about the fat kid's?:D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,135 ✭✭✭fifth

I have a feeling the Puma stuff will be looser fit than the canterbury, which I don't like.
I don't mind the dark green, would prefer a lighter shade but as long as they don't make it any darker it's alright.

Hopefully it won't look anything like this not only is the cross v v wrongm even if you were to replace it with the o2 logo, its still too football for my liking. I still prefer overall the jerseys we had just before we changed to the current ones, if only they made them from same material as current ones.

Note this is from a blog so its only someone messing round with idea, not an actual rl concept of the new jerseys

It'll have 02 on it and definitely wont have a tricolour.

I'd say the darker green will be kept as well...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,776 ✭✭✭Noopti

Hopefully it will not even look close to that monstrosity!

    Thankfully, I doubt it will.

Lol, sure I used to wear something like that when I was an altar-boy. Contrary to opinion on here puma make some fabulous old school rugby jerseys. My GB RL, Not the current one, the one before, is one of the nicest and highest quality jerseys I've got....

    Love These;

There have been no announcements by the IRFU or Puma. as far as I know.

Think it's safe to say it's Puma now with Heaslip, Fitz and Bowe doing photo shoots with them - http://www.sportsfile.com/more-images/PR0902054/

Player endorsements are different. Heaslip has always been with Puma, for example.

I know Puma are going to be the next kit suppliers to the Irish Rugby union team.
The speculation about for how much the deal is worth is what is completely baseless as nothing has been announced on this yet.

honestly i think its a load of nonsense puma coming in
i wear canterbury alot and it takes alot of wear and tear and still looks like its new!
the last one did look like a football jersey!

Canterbury are pure awful, their actual playing jerseys as in match day wons are pathetically made and easily fall apart. Add to that then some of the worst designs in the world of jersey designing it all adds up for a very over rated company.

when do we get to design of it.
i was hoping that they would have 3 or 4 designs amd let the fans decide by an online vote.
    i really hate ccc jerseys.
