Well i 've reached the 1000kms milestone few days ago (i think on the Sat spin) since mid December that i am cycling! But this thread is not for a show-off, i am not that type of guy :p

Its just a thread to say thank you to all of you guys and ladies that have made me cycle, encourage me and made me spent a hell lot of money in such a short period :D

If anyone said to me 3 months ago that i would be able to cycle 150kms in one day, the least thing i would do is laugh at him! So anyone out there who is thinking to start cycling, just get out and do it. Its not easy at the start, and its going to get worse later (especially in wicklow :D) but its fun, its healthy and it changes your lifestyle to a better one.

So.. thanks all and i wish for many more kms to come!

Congrats. Having done just under 700km in the 6 weeks I've had my new bike, it is a great feeling to see the distance climb up. Alot easier than I expected too ... unless you take a wrong turn in Wicklow and end up on a 21% slope :(

+1 -- Its great once you get started. Its a really good way to get excercising again.... You've saved about 100euros on petrol :-)

If you had done it all in one go, you'd be on the outskirts of Paris by now.

You Sir are my hero – seriously that’s very impressive as someone who started to up the distances lately I can only admire you out of interest was that from zero to hero in 2.5 months. If yes then you have given me great motivation

    Nice one Astra.

I hope the 150km wasn't a 10km journey on that Garmin of yours? It seems to enjoy dragging you off on random detours.

I am seriously not a hero :o Yes it was from zero. I hadn't ridden a bicycle for at least 12-13 years. You just have to take the decision! Even if it rains, even if it snows, even if you will meet 15 SUVs that will want to run over you, just get out of the bed and ride the bike! Its fun! (even if its raining!)

I think that it hates me because i left it on the rain one night, or i have done something really wrong on the settings!

Jaysus well done on that Astra, I wasn't clear that you had only started cycling that recently, you seem to have a natural knack for it.

    Very impressive AstraMonti!

I can't yet manage more than 60km without suffering, yet. :(

But I remember my first (and only) imperial century, and doing another is on my list for 09!

Well you've certainly put me to shame.

I'll be cycling a year at the end of May and I expect to have done nearly 4,000km's (fingers crossed). I thought this was ok for my 1st year cycling, actually I thought it was bloody great. What I especially like about your 1st 1,000km's was the weather you did it in. I didn't cycle my bike at all in November & December but I have an excuse for that with a new baby being born and work commitments also.

So well done and keep it up. This is one of the reasons I like this site, every now and again your given a wake up call and realise you have to get the finger out.

So again well done and thanks for the kick in the ass!!
