A friend of mine is moving back to Ireland this year from New York & he has a large collection of blu-ray DVD's, which are NTSC format.

His question is, can a multi region blu-ray DVD player be purchased here in Ireland?

    Thanks.

Probably with an internet connection. :)

Would they not be best bringing back a US player and getting an EU one here.

I think that works out cheaper. The multiregion Denon's were coming in at €1800 I think.

That's what I suggested to him but he wants to buy one for here as he will be commuting to & from NY 10 days of each month and will keep his house in NY.

Is it possible to buy a PAL one & convert it using a code through the remote? Not sure on the legality of that though.

A lot of Bluray discs are region free, a google search should get you a list of region free titles. He should bring the region free discs home and buy a cheap Bluray player eg sony, panasonic, samsung and leave the region locked disc in the US.

Blu Rays are not pal or ntsc like dvd's but are region coded

You can get a region free blu ray player here
    http://www.mrmdvd.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=22_98&products_id=991

Why doesn't he bring his player with him
