Mid Range Engagement Rings

    Hi all,
Having decided on when/where we are getting married, my partner and I were discussing getting a ring. She has said she does not want me to spend a couple of grand on engagement ring as she would rather the money go towards the day itself.

Is it possible to get a decent ring for less than 1000 Euro in Ireland? From reading some posts on here I get the impression the average cost is quite a bit more than that.

    Any help would be appreciated!

Yes, it is. You don't have to get a massive rock and spend the same amount as the deposit for a house! I just had a quick look on the Field's Website and there are some nice ones on there for less than €1000.

Your best bet is to actually go into a couple of shops and ask. When we were looking for my ring, we found that the shops seemed to mostly have rings from 3-4k and upwards in the window. When we were window shopping that was really disheartening, but when we actually went into the shops there was plenty for our budget. Our budget was €2500 max, but we paid a good bit less than that and I love my ring, I never thought we'd get it for the price we did. (Incidentally, we actually ended up buying my ring in Fields lol). We went in to Grafton St, and went into a few of the shops there. Even if you don't end up buying, I'd recommend going into town and seeing what you can get for your budget (there's loads of jewellers in the Grafton St/O'Connell St area) it'll give you a good idea if you can get something you'll like for your budget or whether you want to add some to it.

I agree with Toots, it's the expensive ones that you see in the window. A lot of diamond wedding rings are priced at less than €1000 and have just as much sparkle as a rock, they would make lovely engagement rings and people rarely notice the difference.

Another thing is: does your OH want a diamond ring? There are plenty of other gemstones to chose from e.g. rubies, sapphires, they are cheaper and really different.
