Hmmm.. The only reason I can think of as to why women in particular would use cushions is that they're a bit on the short side, and that a cushion helps to prop them up. Was that last girlfriend of yours a shorty?

Scientists are looking for an answer.

The amount of pillows on their beds baffles me too. Man: 2 pillows max. Girl: 5 minimum.

You spend a lot of the night just throwing those damn pillows off the bed. I think pillow-throwing is like foreplay for some girls.

I'm of the opinion that 1 1/2 pillows is the ultimate for bed, if alone. I'm thinking I may need to get a carving knife to one of mine later.

Ah the momories of happy rerlationships, everytime I went to sit down, I would have to move a pile of cushions onto another chair that already had a pile of goddam cushions.
Maybe they think that adding more cushions to a place makes it look "homely". Personally I go for the minimalist approach to decorating the home, if it has to be dusted or washed every so often then get the fcuk rid of it.

Could we perhaps have a scientific investigation into this phenomenon (can I have a spell check here please)

Its the gene on the X chromosome that also drives them to collect scented candles. I remember reading the sticker on one in an exes gaff that said "do not light". I mean WTF?. yes I have candles too, but they're of the white non scented give off light in a power cut persuasion. You know? Candles. The gene is also involved in hair product collections, "knick knacks" and soft furnishing and scented things in general.

Rejoice in the awareness of feeling stupid, for that’s how you end up learning new things. If you’re not aware you’re stupid, you probably are.

Does this phenomenon have anything to do with the compulsion to hoarde hundreds of handbags and hundreds of pairs of shoes too?
When my OH was moving back from England she had a couple of shipping boxes of each and one box with JUST Belts in it!
Oh and she likes cushions round the place too :D
